Korean Easy Meal Recipe: Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup)

Samgyetang (Ginseng Chicken Soup) is a traditional Korean soup consumed on the hottest days of summer. It is a dish made with a young chicken stuffed with glutinous rice, ginseng, jujubes and garlic, and boiled in water with milk vetch roots. It’s the best-known summer dish and it’s said to give you a boost in energy. Samgyetang makes people feel hotter and makes them sweat in order to ward off the heat. By eating this dish, people can get more energy and prevent exhaustion during the scorching heat waves of summer.

Ingredients (Servings 2 people)

  • 1 whole chicken
  • Herbal mix product (Choose any product you prefer)
    [Choripdong] Chicken Soup(Samgyetang) Stock Teabag 90G
    [Doosung Nongsan] Dried Vegetable for Chicken Soup 50G
    [Soobindang] Herbal Mix for Chicken Soup(Samgyetang) 70G
  • 2L of water

How to cook

  1. Put water and the herbal mix product into a pot and boil it over high for 15 minutes.
  2. Put the chicken into the pot and boil it for 40min – 1 hour.
  3. Add some spring onions, if desired
  4. Remove all the herbals.
  5. Add salt and pepper to taste.
