[Chilkab Farm] Dried Malt Powder allows you to easily make traditional Sikhye (a sweet rice drink) the authentic way. This product is made from 100% domestically grown Korean hulled barley, which is carefully selected and naturally sprouted to create high-quality malt. It contains the essential enzymes to bring the traditional, gentle sweetness to your homemade Sikhye, Gochujang, and other dishes.

How to Prepare

In a large bowl, mix 500g of powder with 7 litres of water and massage it for 2-3 minutes.

Let it sit for 5 minutes, then skim off any floating husks and strain the liquid through a fine cloth.

Pour the strained malt water (avoiding the white sediment) into a rice cooker with two bowls of cooked rice.

Stir well and keep on the ‘warm’ setting for at least 4 hours, or until 20-30 rice grains float.

Transfer the liquid to a large pot, add sugar to your liking, and boil for about 10 minutes to complete.

Tips

For the best long-term storage, cool the finished Sikhye quickly and store it slightly frozen in a kimchi refrigerator.

Do not use the white sediment that settles at the bottom of the bowl for a cleaner, clearer final drink.
